Ann Marie's Story

Hi there Baby Boomers! It's been a long time since 1964 and life has been good. I'm married(since Sept. 1970) to Tony Santarelli, who believe it or not, lived in the same apartment building as I did when I lived in the Bronx. Of course that dates back to my years in elementary school before I moved to Maywood (1959). We met on a blind date, married 10 months later. We have two children, Dina 48 and Tony 45. We've lived in Montvale since l976. My son Tony is married again (divorced and remarried.) and I am now a grandmother to wonderful grandchildren - Ava and Aiden. My daughter Dina lives in Wyckoff, NJ . My mom passed away Feb 3, 2020. Everytime I go through Maywood it makes me very nostalgic. Maywood has changed but it's where I grew up. I still remember Ten Pin (at Bergen Mall), riding the drag in Hackensack, cherry cokes and fries at Charlie's, and collecting 25 cents from a few friends to put gas in my dad's car, -- 25 cents would buy nothing now. Those rides up and down the drag were fun. Those were the days!!!!!!!!!!!!! I worked in the middle school in Montvale from 1986 to June 2007. I retired from school in June '07. Working with kids kept me "with the program" and up to date or at least kept me somehow connected with the "Youth". I opened a yarn shop December ('07) in Hillsdale. So far so good, I enjoy being a shop owner.I love having the shop bu...Expand for more
t I will say I have never worked this hard before! But I just love it!!!!!! I am obsessed with yarn and the never-ending possibilities it offers.I also started making cloth dolls and display some in the shop. It was time for a change! The dolls are "big girls" dolls - to celebrate special birthdays and/or special times. I've found new friends through doll making and we all share the same passion. Come visit me at Yarn Diva if you're nearby. Would love to hear from some of my "old" classmates. 1964 seems like yesterday (my Lord it's been 57 years already - how can that be?) My dad had a Neopolitan saying that "life is a glace out the window". I never believed him - well I do now. We were all in a rush to do I don't know what. We were a small group. I remember Bogota fondly. Classmates has already brought me contact with some and I'm elated. I check from time to time and it's nice to see the names added to Classmates. It makes me smile when I see familiar names. An email is always appreciated and brings me back to a time that was very special to me. I must be getting old (actually 75 this spring). It's really not so bad being 60 plus. I'm getting nostalgic again. It's a sign of age!!!! So my best to all - hope to hear from you and maybe you'll stop by the shop for a visit. All my best to all - Ann Marie Tirisacco Santarelli (now also known as the Yarn Diva)
